Supfina Showcases Efficient Superfinishing Technology at MACH Birmingham

Supfina is currently exhibiting at MACH Birmingham, presenting reliable solutions for the surface finishing of demanding industrial applications. As a guest at the stand of its representative Master Abrasives in Hall 6, Stand 520, visitors are invited to meet the team and explore innovative technologies first-hand.

With locations in Germany, the United States and China, Supfina Grieshaber operates a global network for the development and manufacture of surface finishing equipment. The company specialises in fine grinding and superfinishing systems, offering solutions that ensure precise and reproducible surface quality across a wide range of workpiece geometries.

Efficient Superfinishing for Optimum Results

Superfinishing, also known as short-stroke honing, achieves surface roughness levels of up to Ra < 0.05 µm. The resulting surface structure improves lubrication, increases load-bearing capacity and reduces wear. For subcontract manufacturers, this means high-quality components ready for delivery and increased customer satisfaction.

Supfina One: A Flexible and Economical Superfinishing Solution

At the centre of the presentation is the Supfina One – a standardised base machine designed for superfinishing applications in small to medium batch production. It combines technologically advanced surface processing with a moderate investment level, focusing on process reliability, reproducibility and economic efficiency – even at متوسط utilisation rates.

Designed as a modular solution, the Supfina One can be flexibly integrated into existing production environments. In its basic configuration, the machine deliberately omits automated loading and unloading systems as well as automatic door operation in order to reduce investment costs. Instead, it features semi-automated operation with user-friendly interfaces, offering clear economic advantages, particularly for varying production volumes.

Workpieces are clamped using a standard three-jaw chuck or alternatively between centres. Tailstock positioning and clamping are carried out manually, supported by a pneumatically assisted quill. This configuration allows for short set-up times and quick changeovers between different component types.

To meet a wide range of processing requirements, the Supfina One can be equipped either with a belt finishing attachment (Supfina 210) or a stone finishing unit (Supfina 203). Both systems are equipped with dedicated NC axes to ensure precise and reproducible positioning. Optional peripheral solutions, such as coolant filter units with magnetic separators or aerosol mist extraction systems, further enhance process stability and working conditions.

Control is provided via a Siemens S7-1200 platform. A compact touch panel enables intuitive operation and reduces set-up times.

In its standard configuration, the Supfina One measures 1,580 x 1,150 mm (excluding filter unit) and weighs approximately 1,500 kg. It is designed to process workpieces with a maximum diameter of 180 mm, a length of up to 500 mm and a maximum weight of 40 kg. Loading is carried out at a height of 1,050 mm, with a loading depth of 380 mm from the front edge of the machine.

Positioned Between Entry-Level and Fully Automated Systems

The Supfina One is positioned as a solution between simple add-on devices and fully automated superfinishing systems. Its standardised machine concept combines efficiency, flexibility and productivity, offering short set-up times, versatile clamping options and a balanced cost-benefit ratio.

Supfina welcomes all visitors to MACH Birmingham and looks forward to discussing individual production requirements on site.
