Energy and Resources at Supfina

Using Energy Efficiently.
Managing Resources Responsibly.

At its Wolfach facility, Supfina implements a variety of measures to use energy efficiently and maximize the lifespan of available resources. These include photovoltaic systems, battery storage, LED lighting with automated controls, e-mobility infrastructure, and the modernization of existing machinery.

The same philosophy is reflected in our technologies, where low friction, long service life, and the efficient use of materials and energy are key design considerations.

Surface Finishes for Reduced Friction

For decades, superfinishing has been used to enhance the surfaces of bearing components. Depending on the application and operating conditions, optimized surface finishes can help reduce friction losses and extend component service life.

Supfina continuously advances its superfinishing technologies and offers solutions for a wide range of bearing and drivetrain components.

E-Mobility: Precision for the Drivetrain

Elektromobilität ohne Superfinish? Kaum denkbar.

Electric vehicles place demanding requirements on bearings, shafts, and other moving components. Low friction and long operating life are critical factors.

Precisely superfinished surfaces can help reduce friction at bearing contact points and support the durability and performance of drivetrain components.

Bearing Components for Wind Turbines

Geringe Reibung = Hohe Effizienz. Supfina hat die Lösung.

Wind turbines contain numerous bearings, from the generator and rotor shaft to nacelle positioning systems. These applications require low friction, high load capacity, and long service life.

Supfina provides superfinishing solutions for the precision machining of these critical bearing components.

Precision Machining Coated Brake Discs

Bremsen für die Umwelt. Supfina hat die Technik.

Braking generates particle emissions through friction. One approach to reducing wear is the use of specially coated brake discs.

In these applications, wear-resistant coating is applied using processes such as laser cladding or cold gas spraying. A Supfina double-disk grinding machine specifically developed for this purpose then machines the coated surfaces to the required final dimensions and surface quality with high precision.

Energy Management at the Wolfach Facility

Cleveres Gebäudemanagement für unsere Umwelt

At its Wolfach site, Supfina employs various technological measures to manage energy consumption and reduce reliance on externally sourced electricity. These include LED hall lighting with automatic control systems, photovoltaic installation, and battery energy storage.

1,867 m² of
Photovoltaic Area

1250m² große Photovoltaikanlage. Unser Beitrag.

1,008 solar modules, covering an area of 1,867 m² and providing an installed capacity of 420 kWp, generate electricity directly at the Supfina facility.

The system is expected to produce approximately 260,000 kWh annually. A portion of this energy is used directly on-site, while excess electricity can be stored in the battery system for later use.

492 kWh Battery
Storage System

Neuer Stromspeicher der Superlative!

The battery storage system installed at the Wolfach facility provides a storage capacity of 492 kWh.

Working alongside the photovoltaic installation, it enables solar power generated on-site to be used when required, helping align energy production more effectively with operational demand.

E-Mobility
at Supfina

Elektromobilität bei Supfina

Eight charging points for electric vehicles are currently available at the Wolfach facility for employees, customers, and service vehicles. Additional charging stations are planned.

When sufficient solar power is available, charging energy can be supplied directly from Supfina's photovoltaic system.

Retrofit:
Modernizing Existing Machines

Elektromobilität bei Supfina

Why replace an entire machine when existing components can continue to be used?

With the Supfina Retrofit Program, existing machines can be modernized, expanded, or adapted for new machining tasks, depending on their condition and operational requirements.

  • Continue Using Existing Technology
Suitable machines and components can be retained and reused, helping reduce the need for newly manufactured parts./li>
  • Extend Service Life
Upgrades to controls, drives, mechanical systems, or automation can enable existing equipment to meet new operational requirements.
  • Optimize Energy Consumption
Depending on the machine's condition and the technologies implemented, modern drive and control systems can help reduce energy demand.
  • Modernization Instead of Replace
Retrofit combines an existing machine platform with current technologies, enabling targeted technical upgrades while preserving valuable equipment assets.
